TDWI San Diego is helping you to be the Master of your Data!

Author and industry thought leader David Loshin will join us to discuss data quality and master data management.

Master data management (MDM) is a maturing technology, with an expected growth in products and services in the years to come. Yet many conventional approaches for implementing an MDM program do not succeed as planned. Variations in the definitions of data concepts, such as customer names, location, product description, etc., can cause differences in the way the data is used.

The traditional approach to MDM is to create a “golden record.” This approach, however, can lead to process flaws if the downstream impacts are not correctly assessed. If the goal of master data management is to integrate business value into a long-term information strategy, it may be worthwhile to take a value-based and consumption-focused approach to provide a consistent representation of shared information.

Join David as he discusses fundamental MDM challenges and examines how addressing these challenges can help organizations better embrace master data management, with the end goal of better decision making using the information at hand.
